Legendary Doughnuts: Not Your Average Doughnut

AUBURN, WA — Legendary Doughnuts is more than a hop, skip, and jump away, but it is worth the drive from Seattle. The store opens at 4AM daily with freshly made doughnuts that use premium ingredients. With flavors ranging from “Bacon Maple” to “Snickers” and “Cotton Candy,” Legendary Doughnuts offers some of the most unique doughnuts in Washington.

If the word, “legendary” is in the name of your establishment, great things are expected. The same goes for restaurants that claim to have the “best [food item]” in the city, state, country, and/or world. Lucky for me, Legendary Doughnuts turned out to be quite legendary. I experience serious doughtnut cravings more often than I’d like and am always on the lookout for unique combinations of flavors. I had been meaning to make the trek down to Auburn for over a year to taste these delectable-sounding treats, but had never made the time for a 40-minute drive.

Legendary’s lives up to their motto — “Not Your Average Doughnut.” With flavors ranging from “Snickers” to “Shirley Temple” and “Captain Crunch,” it is already difficult to make a decision. In addition, there is a whole list of movie and celebrity-themed doughnuts, including “Sleepless in Seattle,” a chocolate cake doughnut covered with espresso glaze and sprinkled with chocolate covered espresso beans, “Captin Jack Sparrow,” chocolate cake topped with rum frosting, and “King Kong,” banana nut cake with chocolate and walnuts. I forsee many more trips in the future to try their whole menu!

Out of all the doughnuts I sampled, the “Bacon Maple” was my favorite, with a decadent maple glaze and crispy bacon, but all were freshly made with quality ingredients. In addition to their doughnut offerings, they make custom doughnut cakes [pictured below]. I have my eye on the “Hamburger Doughnut Cake” for my next special occasion.

This doughnut shop is also reminiscent of Voodoo Doughnuts in Portland, OR. Have you been there? If you like gourmet doughnuts, both Legendary and Voodoo should be on your list. They are worth the drive.
