On a perfect July day, Cypress Lounge & Wine Bar at the Westin Bellevue and Georgetown Brewing sparked up the barbecue, tapped a keg of Bob’s Brown Ale, and held the fourth annual Party on the Patio, raising $1000 for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Western Washington and Alaska.
Throughout the evening Cypress raffled off ten items donated by Georgetown Brewing, Pagliacci Pizza and The Westin Bellevue, including several wines from the Cypress Lounge & Wine Bar cellar that are not available elsewhere, and a Manny’s Pale Ale hoodie modeled by Georgetown brewery owner Manny Chao, himself. Patron donations were generated from a special barbecue menu as well as sales from Georgetown Brewing beers including Bob’s Brown Ale, brewed specially as a benefit for Ronald McDonald House.
Every May 14th, Cypress is among a handful of restaurants pouring from kegs of Bob’s Brown Beer from Georgetown Brewing, honoring the birthday of Bob Hirsch, a close friend of the brewers who lost his life to cancer at the age of 21. All of the proceeds from this limited release beer are donated to Ronald McDonald House Charities which support seriously ill children and their families by providing a “home away from home” during treatment.
Since Bob’s Brown Beer was first brewed just seven years ago, more than $254,300 has been raised for the Seattle Ronald McDonald House, which can house up to 80 families per night. Over 80 percent of the operating funds for the house come from individuals, organizations and businesses, such as Georgetown Brewing and participating restaurants like Cypress.
Cypress Lounge & Wine Bar has been recognized by the Washington Wine commission and peers for the quality of its all Washington Wine list of 60+ wines all curated by the staff and available by the glass. Additionally, its commitment to supporting local businesses includes featuring only Western Washington beers on tap, including Georgetown Brewing from South Seattle.
