SZMANIA’S Restaurant in Seattle’s Magnolia neighborhood will celebrate its 23rd anniversary on September 19th, teaming up with Brender Canyon Vineyards and the release of SZMANIA’s very first wine.
Owners Ludger and Julie Szmania will host a special Brender Canyon Wine dinner on this day, introducing Chef Ludger’s initial wine release, Brender Canyon Vineyards Premier Red Field Blend, with grapes from the Szmania farm in Cashmere. Bottles will be available for dining or for enjoying at home ($32).
The wine dinner ($42), from 7-9pm, features a two-course pairing menu. It includes Smoked Duck Breast, Red Kraut Salad with Cashmere Merlot Grape Molasses, and Roasted Rack of Lamb with Shallot Jus, Au Gratin Potatoes & Ratatouille. Reservations are highly recommended.
SZMANIA’S opened with an exhibition cooking counter, still a mainstay and favorite of many who enjoy watching Chef Ludger and his crew at work. A most recent renovation produced an expanded bar (along with an extensive list of hand-crafted cocktails) and a larger outdoor patio.
In 2006, the family purchased their 20-acre working farm in Cashmere, Washington, and renovated the 1908 farmhouse they now use as a second home. A one-acre vineyard was planted in 2007 with Sangiovese, Merlot and Syrah grapes, first harvested in 2011.
The Szmanias, whose three sons work with the family business, have lived in Magnolia for 25 years and continue to support local charities, including an upcoming Moyer Foundation book signing on September 26.
SZMANIA’S Restaurant & Bar is located in the heart of Magnolia at 3321 W. McGraw Street.
