After a long and anticipated wait, Dystopian State Brewing Co finally opened their doors to eager and excited craft brewing fans. Located in the heart of Tacoma on Saint Helens avenue, the brewery is decorated with wood tables, leather couches and incandescent light bulbs, once you walk into the brewery, you get a real sense of comfort and the feeling that you belong.
What sets this brewery apart from other craft breweries is their beer selection. Dystopian State doesn’t follow the classic beer scheme of generic IPAs and pales, they are more refined than that. Offering a triple black IPA – The Entropy and the Coconut Cream Ale – Everyone’s Crises, Dystopian State sets themselves apart from breweries around the area with their higher ABV beers and variety of styles.
While the theme of the brewery has an Orson Welles, ‘V for Vendetta’ feel, owner Shane McElwrath emphasizes that the brewery is family and kid friendly.
If you’re tired of the corporate world and ready to take on some delicious beers in Tacoma, I highly suggest trying out Dystopian State Brewing.
Recommendations:
- The Red Queen – Red India Pale Ale. With a little more body than your traditional IPA.
- Dabber Dubbel – Belgian Dubbel. A bit of spice and malt.
- Everyone’s Crisis – Coconut Cream Ale. Lower ABV, a lot of coconut.
